This week has been anything but good but today takes the cake!
Since our FCAT testing is completed other testing has taken its place. The kids are constantly being barraged by assessments of one sort or another. SO....their behavior is off the wall. The believe school is already ended and their attitudes are awful...disrespectful and noncompliant.
I have many hormonal, attitudinal, haughty preteen females (2 boys and 9 girls) in my fifth grade. I am in no mood to tolerate eye rolling, huffs and puffs and deep sighing! I showed many of them the zeros in my grade book for work done together in class has not been submitted to me. When asked where it is, I get shoulder shrugs and slouching in their chairs. One girl rolls her eyes and smiles at me all the time (and you know she is not being friendly) and another girl krinkles her nose at me and smiles and then lies outright to me. Today I had it and had a Spanish speaking assistant call home. The kids still have 14 days of school with me. Next wk this class will not even come to me because they will be going to "Zoo School". (pleasant relief for me).
With this frame of attitude in mind, let me tell you about my day today (which began Monday). I had a sleep apnea test done recently and need to use a CPAP machine to sleep. I called to make an appt for Monday and had it set up that I would leave work early, rush home, vacuum and then have the person show me how to set it up. The person who set up the appt never said I needed to GO to the office, nor did they give me an address but that is what I discovered when 2 hours later no one had come to the house and I called. I was furious. The person on the other line (not the appointment maker) was gracious and allowed me to complain loudly about not being given correct instructions. So the appt was made for today. I asked where the office was located (15 miles north of my house) on A1A and Burns Road. He said do you know where the hospital is and I said yes. He said there is a Road off Burns Rd called Ironwood Rd. It's on that street.
I left school early to be sure I could find the place. Got to A1A and Burns and travelled from one end of Burns Rd to the other and there was no Ironwood. I pulled off the road to call again for directions and was on hold for 5 min. I drove again and pulled into the police dept to call again. I sat there 5 min and finally, a woman answered who gave me street by street directions (which included a road off Burns... not Ironwood, and then 3 more side roads until I get to the building!... So off I went again. I drove through a school zone and under the I-95 overpass only to be pulled over by a police office who said I was speeding through the school zone. I told him I didn't think I was in the school zone when I accelerated but I handed him my insurance, registration, but could not locate my brand new license, so I gave him my old one. He told me to keep looking. I apologized and said I am just totally frustrated. He came back, looked at my new license and gave me a verbal warning. He told me to be safe and I said I was sorry but I was looking for an address because of an appt and couldn't find it. So he gave me the best directions; told me to be safe and I thanked him.
On the way home I stopped to do grocery shopping. I got home and carried in the last of about 15 bags and set the bags on the counter... just in time to see one of my jars of pickle relish roll out of the bag, off he counter and onto the floor, smashing all over. The cat wanted food but there was glass in his bowl. He was screaming, pickles were everywhere and all I wanted to do was cry. I cleaned up what I could and then got the mop. My dinner, which I had gotten at the store was now ice cold but there was nothing I could do...this had to be cleaned up. Finally I sat down and ate my cold chicken wings and veggies. Tried to drink some wine, but it was nasty... The floor is still sticky but tomorrow I will re-mop it and tomorrow I will set up my CPAP machine. I am too exhausted to deal with that tonight! A shower and ice cream are in order!!!
Thank God tomorrow is Friday!!! 13 days til retirement!!!
